From Adjectives to Nouns
We often change adjectives (describing words) into nouns (naming words) to talk about feelings and emotions as ideas.
Suffix: -ness
If word ends in 'y', change to 'i' + ness.
Happy → Happiness
Suffix: -ment
Usually just add to the end.
Excited → Excitement
Irregular / Other
Some words change completely!
Sympathetic → Sympathy
